FAQ

  • This site is based on Google Custom Search Engine.

  • Why do we need a specialized search engine for NET Framework, DotNet?

It is hard to find relevant content for NET framework, DotNet, SQL Server using an all purpose search engine.

    For example,

Typing “Cache” in a search engine returned no relevant result in the first 15 pages (150 search results). Searching for "Cache" in an all purpose search engine resulting in finding "Cache Creek", "Cache the movie", "Cache the salsa band" and everything besides the Cache object in NET Framework.

When you search for “Cache” on http://www.helpwithdotnet.com every single result returned is relevant to DotNet. The search results in this example return results relevant to helping you with .NET development.

To further emphasize this concept try searching for “CLR”, "Reflection" in a general purpose search engine and then on this site.

  • What is Vertical Search?

Vertical Search covers a wide range including industry specific search engines. HelpWithDotNet is a search engine optimized to help .NET developers and architects.

Several studies have found a horizontal search engine can quite frustrating for several reasons:

    - The query is rarely understood in the context of the Vertical.

    - There is 10% chance of finding exactly what you want.

    - Irrelevant results can easily side track from focusing on the task in hand.

    - When the correct result is returned more than 50% of the developers believe the result does not exist rather then believing the search was not conducted correctly.

    - There is a 35% chance you will make a development or design decision without having the correct information in hand.

Vertical Search Engines such as HelpWithDotNet address the above problems.
